Paymentology celebrates five years of payment processing across 15 Latin American markets
The company has supported the transformation of the region’s financial ecosystem, from the expansion of digital payments and card issuing to new credit models, embedded finance and digital financial services.
Mexico, 8 September 2026 – Paymentology, the leading global issuer processor, is celebrating five years of operations in Latin America, during which it has strengthened its presence across the region and expanded its capabilities to meet the evolving needs of banks, fintechs and other financial institutions.
Over this period, Latin America’s financial ecosystem has progressed from the rapid adoption of digital payments into a new phase characterised by the integration of credit, accounts, digital wallets and other financial services into digital experiences. In parallel, Paymentology has evolved its offering from card issuing and processing infrastructure into a platform designed to enable new financial models and support clients across more than 15 markets.
“Latin America has changed enormously over the past five years. Today, the opportunity extends far beyond digitising payments, as banks, fintechs and new players look to create more innovative, flexible financial products tailored to their customers’ needs. This is where Paymentology can make a real difference, combining global technology, local expertise and the ability to turn new ideas into real products quickly and at scale,” said Pedro Blanco Pinto, Head of Business Development for LAC at Paymentology.
Key milestones for Paymentology over the past five years include:
- Evolution of issuing and processing infrastructure: A cloud-native platform designed to enable banks, fintechs and financial institutions to launch, manage and scale card programmes across multiple markets.
- Launch of Lume: In 2026, Paymentology introduced its new cloud-native issuing and processing platform, designed to combine global scale, market-specific localisation and continuous innovation. With regional instances and capabilities supporting new use cases, from stablecoin-linked payments to tokenisation, embedded finance and digital credit.
- Expansion into new financial models: Growing demand for more modern credit options has driven the introduction of credit capabilities, including BNPL, revolving credit and instalment credit solutions, alongside Cards-as-a-Service, cross-border payments, multi-currency accounts and new payment experiences.
- Greater regional adaptability: An architecture combining a global platform with regional instances and capabilities designed to meet local regulatory, data residency, performance and business continuity requirements.
- International scalability: A single platform and API enabling financial institutions to launch operations in one market and expand into others without having to change their processing infrastructure.
- Strengthening the partner ecosystem: Paymentology has expanded its relationships with BIN sponsors and reseller partners, making it easier for fintechs and new issuers to access payments infrastructure, accelerate their time to market and scale their programmes across multiple countries.
- Preparing for emerging use cases: Developing capabilities to support trends including embedded finance, tokenisation, artificial intelligence in payments, agentic commerce, stablecoins and new issuing and credit models.
- Supporting institutions of all sizes: Infrastructure designed to support organisations ranging from growing fintechs to larger banks and financial institutions.
The company has worked with organisations including UnDosTres to enable embedded credit models and Cards-as-a-Service; albo, to support the evolution of its digital financial services; and Rain, to develop stablecoin-linked payment experiences, including physical and virtual cards for consumers and corporate employees.
Through its partner ecosystem, including BIN sponsors and resellers, Paymentology has also expanded the ways in which fintechs and other organisations can access issuing and processing infrastructure and bring new financial products to market.
“We combine more than 20 years of issuer processing experience with a cloud-native architecture built for the next generation of payments. With a presence in 68 countries, our regional and multi-cloud infrastructure enables us to adapt to the requirements of each market while strengthening availability and operational continuity. Paymentology’s sustainable growth has been built on proven capabilities and consistent results over time,” commented Pedro Blanco Pinto.
After five years of operations, Latin America remains a priority region for Paymentology. Mexico plays a central role in the company’s regional growth strategy, alongside key markets such as Colombia and Central America, as well as emerging opportunities across South America and the Caribbean.
The company will continue to strengthen its investment in technology and local capabilities, with a particular focus on trends including embedded finance, artificial intelligence, tokenisation, stablecoins, cross-border payments and new issuing and credit models.
“Five years in Latin America is an important milestone for Paymentology, but for us, the most exciting part is what comes next. We see enormous opportunities across the region, from credit and new issuing models to stablecoins, tokenisation and increasingly integrated financial services. We want to continue growing alongside our clients and partners, combining our global technology and expertise with teams that have a deep understanding of each local market,” concluded Pedro Blanco Pinto, Head of Business Development for LAC at Paymentology.
