Partnership supports Maxim’s new UK credit card programme, designed to help Africans build their financial identity and access culturally relevant rewards

London, UK – 2 September 2026: Paymentology, the leading global issuer processor, has partnered with Maxim, the borderless credit platform for Africans, to support the launch of its new credit card programme in the UK.

The partnership brings together Maxim’s ambition to improve access to credit for Africans living across borders with Paymentology’s cloud-native issuer processing technology and global payments expertise.

Maxim officially marked its UK launch at an event held at Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal Football Club, on Thursday 27 August. During the event, Paymentology’s Global Head of Partnerships, Merusha Naidu, joined Maxim CEO, Ibrahim Oladele on stage to discuss the partnership and the role modern payments infrastructure can play in creating more inclusive and relevant financial products.

Maxim was created to address a challenge faced by many people moving to a new country: despite having established careers, incomes and financial histories elsewhere, they can find themselves effectively starting again when it comes to accessing credit. Experian estimates that more than five million people in the UK are currently “credit invisible”, with little or no credit history available to mainstream financial services providers.

Initially focused on the Nigerian diaspora in the UK, Maxim provides credit cards for both newcomers with limited UK credit history and more established residents looking for a product that better reflects how they live and spend.

Through its partnership with Paymentology, Maxim can deliver the processing capabilities needed to support its UK card programme while building a foundation for long-term momentum and future growth. Paymentology’s cloud-native technology provides the flexibility, scalability and insight required to launch, evolve and scale differentiated card propositions as customer needs and ambitions change.

Ibrahim Oladele, CEO of Maxim, said: “Moving to a new country should not mean leaving your financial identity behind. Too many talented and ambitious people arrive in the UK with years of experience and financial history, only to find that none of it counts. Maxim is building a more connected financial journey for Africans living across borders, beginning with credit cards that help customers establish their financial footprint while accessing rewards that genuinely reflect their lives. Paymentology shares our belief that financial products should be built around the people using them, making them the right partner to help us bring that vision to life.”

Unlike traditional rewards programmes, Maxim’s points-based ecosystem has been designed around the interests and lifestyles of the African diaspora. Customers can earn points through everyday spending and redeem them across a curated range of experiences and services, including African restaurants and brands, music events, live entertainment, transport, cinema, theatre, football tickets and shipping between the UK and Nigeria.

Maxim is already active in Nigeria, where it provides access to interest-free credit. Its expansion into the UK represents the next step in building a more continuous financial experience for Africans moving between markets, allowing the company to support customers across different stages of their lives and financial journeys.

Julie Sutton, Head of Growth Europe at Paymentology, said: “Maxim is tackling a very real problem: people’s lives and ambitions increasingly cross borders, but financial systems often do not. Building more inclusive services requires both a deep understanding of customers and flexible, scalable technology. At Paymentology, we help ambitious fintechs become unstoppable. By combining Maxim’s understanding of the African diaspora with our global reach, local expertise and modern issuer processing capabilities, we’re helping to create a relevant card programme that is ready to scale in the UK and beyond.”

The launch builds on Paymentology’s long-standing presence across both Africa and the UK. Its cloud-native Lume platform supports banks, digital banks and fintechs in creating and scaling card programmes across 68 countries, combining global reach with local market knowledge and on-the-ground expertise.
